Who among us, whatever our culture of origin, has not felt a desire for truth? And to possess it, we venture down unthinkable paths that lead us towards that truth: a book, a study, moments of comparison and dialogue between different ideas... In ancient times, wise men looked at the stars in search of that long-awaited truth. And it is this fact that inspires our Idea of the Month.
It is known that, more than 2000 years ago, the wise men began to follow a star in search of a greater light that would give them hope. Their desire for truth was so great that they left everything and set out without knowing where they were going or what their destination would be.
It is an invitation to each of us to do the same, to leave our comfort zone to open ourselves to mutual acceptance, to leave everything to embark on a journey together that will lead us to something greater. And just as it was once a star, today each of us is called to be a visible sign of brotherhood for others, a light that can be a guide and orientation for this humanity thirsty for truth. A light that lights up first of all in the depths of our conscience and which is made brighter by love. At the same time, each of us is called to sharpen our gaze to discover this light in those who accompany us in daily life and thus share our riches.
To follow this path, it is essential to recognize ourselves as we are: small, fragile, always in need of forgiveness and mercy, and therefore sincerely ready to have the same attitude towards others.
Chiara Lubich's words can help us when she reminds us that we have the immense privilege of the life of "recognize that I am nothing". And don't just say it in words. So, to annihilate our thoughts or our will, we just need to stop always thinking about ourselves first and listen to the call of the other that is indicated to us in the present moment. Having in our heart a love for others capable of sharing anxieties, pains, problems, joys and of putting ourselves at the service of defending human dignity, especially of the poorest, the weakest and the marginalized. If we are always "love", without realizing it, we are already nothing to ourselves and we will be a bright star.
