Loving others with a mother's love means being so empty of oneself, so humble and open to listening to the voice of conscience, so that love can become effective and become history.

No one will be able to experience perfect motherhood, but we can all believe that love is possible by making our lives as citizens, parents, students, workers and politicians, young and old, healthy and sick, fruitful.

On the hills of the Holy Land, in times very close to us, a deeply believing mother taught her children the art of forgiveness and dialogue learned in the school of life. A small sign, in that land, cradle of civilization, always in search of peace and stability, even among believers of different religions. Margaret reports: "To us, her children, offended by some expressions of rejection from other children, our neighbors, the mother said: Invite those kids to our house. She herself shared the freshly baked bread at home so that they could take it to their families. Since then we have always built friendships with those people".

Chiara Lubich also confirms this when she says that big and small things, but always wonderful, come true in those who believe in love. Books could be filled with events that prove this. In everyday life, we open our hearts to listening, with the trust that love will come true.

In this time approaching Christmas and the meeting of families, let's try to live brotherly love. Confident of this challenge, let us revive love even today, in our homes and in our streets, through mutual acceptance, deep listening to others, a fraternal embrace, like that of a true mother.
