The Focolare Movement has recently aimed to learn more about the thoughts and sensitivity regarding prayer of all members of the Movement. How does this topic resonate with people without a religious reference?

We asked this question to some of those who participate in our dialogue and who do not have a religious reference, so that everyone could answer according to their own sensitivity and experience.

We offer you some responses that we received “(which were greatly appreciated)” and invite anyone who is happy to do so to follow along by sharing their thoughts and experiences on this topic.

“In the context of religious thought, I would see prayer as an attempt at one-way dialogue between children (conscious of their own littleness and weakness) and God, or in any case a superior entity.”

Armando's thought

“…a particular turning point in understanding the meaning of prayer occurred for me when, in 2014, at the end of the General Assembly of the Movement to which I had been invited, I had the opportunity to meet Pope Francis. Knowing that I don't recognize myself in any religious faith, instead of the now famous "pray for me", with the utmost respect for "my being", repeating it several times, he told me: "think of me intensely". I found it a wonderful way to pray.
